Event Recap
Sommer am U is an open-air summer series hosted at the cultural complex around Dortmunder U. The 2023 edition brought together electronic music, youth culture, and grassroots creativity in the city’s heart. On August 11, 2023, Barulho World took over the openair stage with a powerful DJ showcase blending Afrohouse, Baile Funk, UK Garage, and diasporic club music.
Our performance was an invitation to move, connect, and resist. Set against the sunset-lit skyline of Dortmund, we turned public space into a temporary sound system – free, collective, and joyful.

What It Felt Like
The plaza in front of Dortmunder U filled with movement. Skaters, families, ravers, and wanderers stopped, danced, and vibed together. For one evening, city infrastructure became dancefloor, protest, and party space in one.

Veranstaltungsrückblick (DE)
Sommer am U ist eine Openair-Eventreihe rund um das Dortmunder U, bei der Musik, Jugendkultur und kreative Stadtgesellschaft zusammenkommen. Am 11. August 2023 bespielte Barulho World die Hauptbühne mit einem DJ-Set aus Afrohouse, Baile Funk, UK Garage und diasporischen Clubsounds.
Unser Auftritt war eine Einladung zum Bewegen, Verbinden und Widerstand leisten. Vor der Kulisse des Dortmunder Sonnenuntergangs verwandelten wir den öffentlichen Raum in ein kollektives Soundsystem – frei, energiegeladen und voller Freude.

Atmosphäre
Der Vorplatz des Dortmunder U war voller Bewegung. Skater:innen, Familien, Raver:innen und Flaneur:innen blieben stehen, tanzten und feierten gemeinsam. Für einen Abend wurde die Stadt zur Tanzfläche – zwischen Protest, Party und Begegnung.
